Walkathon in Jamshedpur on August 4 to raise awareness about vascular diseases

Jamshedpur, August 3: The Vascular Society of India, with the support of Tata Steel, will organize a walkathon in Jamshedpur on Sunday, August 4, 2024, on the occasion of National Vascular Day, to raise awareness about vascular diseases. This year the theme for the Walkathon is ‘Amputation Free World.’

This event is being organized across 34 cities pan-India to bring about mass awareness on Vascular diseases, being preventable and treatable causes of amputation.

Jamshedpur is hosting the Walkathon for the very first time in support of this cause.

The walkathon will start at 6 AM near the JRD Tata Sports Complex main gate and cover 2.5 kilometers. Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President of Corporate Services at Tata Steel, will flag off the event. Over 280 participants have registered, showing strong community support for this important cause.

“By organizing this walkathon, we hope to encourage people to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Early detection and timely treatment of Peripheral Arterial Diseases can prevent limb amputations.” said Dr. Sudhir Rai, General Manager of Medical Services at Tata Steel and member of the Vascular Society of India.

Vascular diseases, which affect the body’s blood vessels, are a significant health concern. In India 40-50% of all amputations are due to complications from Vascular diseases. Risk factors include smoking, diabetes, hypertension and high blood cholesterol. Early detection and treatment are crucial to prevent serious complications and gangrene. The walkathon aims to educate the public about risk factors, symptoms, and available treatments for vascular diseases.

The public is invited to participate and join the movement to raise awareness about vascular diseases.
