Jamshedpur :The rush for booking train tickets during the winter vacation has gained momentum at the Tatanagar railway station.
The waiting list for major trains like Tata-Alleppy Express, Howrah-Ahmedabad Express, Mumbai Mail, Howrah-Mumbai Geetanjali, Howrah-Kurla Express, Jallianwalla Bagh Express, Tata-Yeshwantpur and South Bihar Express has crossed the 150 mark between December 28 and January 4.
In other trains, the figures are hovering between 100 and 125.
Worse is the situation for a few trains such as Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Superfast Express, which goes via Tatanagar and Howrah-Pune Azad Hind Express. Even waiting list tickets are not available on dates like December 24, 27, 28, 29, 30 and the first three days of January, as the reservation quota has reached a no-room status.
Concerned over the situation, the Chakradharpur railway division today sent a requisition to Garden Reach, headquarters of South Eastern Railway ( SER) for providing additional coaches in those trains in which the rush is more.
” The requsition has been forwarded to our Garden Reach headquarters today,” said a senior official at Chakradharpur division adding that they are also expecting a winter special train between Howrah and Mumbai later this month.
Officials at computerised passenger reservation centre at Tatanagar also informed that confirmed tickets in all the major trains heading for Metros are not available till the first week of December.
“ The rush is because of the approaching winter vacation. The marriage season is also one of the reasons for the rush in ticket booking, ” said A Ganguly, an official at the reservation centre.
