Jamshedpur: The long-awaited wage agreement (Grade Revision) for thousands of employees at Tata Motors in Jamshedpur has now been finalised, bringing clarity on salary hikes and enhanced benefits. The details were shared during a high-level meeting held on Tuesday between the company management and the Tata Motors Workers Union.
According to the agreement, employees will receive a total wage increase of ₹19,750 over a period of four years. The most notable aspect of the settlement is that more than half of the total hike will be implemented in the very first year, providing immediate financial relief to the workforce.
In the first year alone, employees will see a total increase of ₹10,862. This includes a substantial rise of ₹7,970 in Basic Pay, along with additional benefits such as ₹80 in Annual Increment, ₹797 in House Rent Allowance (HRA), ₹662 in Leave Travel Allowance (LTA), ₹966 in Provident Fund (PF), and ₹387 in Gratuity.
The second year will bring an additional increase of ₹2,962, with ₹2,232 allocated under Fixed Dearness Allowance (FDA) and ₹355 towards Uniform Maintenance. In the third and fourth years, employees will receive increments of ₹2,963 annually. These include provisions such as ₹500 for Children’s Hostel Allowance, ₹963 for House Maintenance Allowance, and Performance-Linked Cash Award (PCA) of ₹1,000 in the third year and ₹1,500 in the fourth year.
Apart from the wage hike, the agreement also expands social security benefits. The Mediclaim coverage limit has been increased to ₹5 lakh, offering greater healthcare security to employees and their families. Additionally, the Leave Bank limit has been enhanced from 90 days to 100 days, allowing workers to accumulate more leave.
The closure policy has also been revised, with 24 block closure days and one flexi-closure day added while retaining the existing system.
Union representatives stated that employees are likely to start receiving the revised financial benefits from their June or July salaries, as system updates are currently underway. However, a deduction of ₹2,000 will be made from the April salary as part of adjustment procedures.
Senior officials including Soumik Roy, Harendra Pratap and Keshav Mani represented the management during the meeting. On the other hand, the senior bearers of the union were present to formally endorse the agreement, marking the conclusion of negotiations on a positive note.
