W Singhbhum gears up for final phase rural polls

Chaibasa, Dec. 11: West Singhbhum district is all set for the fourth and final phase of the three-tier panchayat elections in the Naxalite-infested areas of Gudri, Goelkera , Sonua and Bandgaon block on December 12.

The district election commissioner has dispatched 2208 polling officers for 552 booths from Chakradharpur Madhusudan High School on December 10 and considering the geographical condition of the region, this time most of the polling officers will be airlifted by helicopter to the booths and cluster points.

Elections will be held at 168 booths in Sonua , 71 booths in Gudri, 174 booths in Bandgaon, and 139 booths in Goelkera.

A total of 27 Zila parishad candidates, 121 Panchayat Samity Sadasya candidates, 245 Gram Panchayat Mukhiya candiates, 259 Ward Member candidates are in the fray in the fourth phase.

Since all the polling booths come under hypersensitive zone, the district election commission has thrown strong security blanket to foster fearless and peaceful election.

Polling will begin at 7 a.m. and continue until 3 p.m. tomorrow.
