Jamshedpur : Police have arrested two persons and sent them to jail today for staging violent protest in front of the Mango police station late Saturday night. A mob of 200 protesters had resorted to stone-pelting at the police and damaging police vehicles on Mango-Azadnagar Road.
Those arrested were identified as Sahadat Khan (34), an active member of AJSU Party and Ayesha Khan (30), both residents of Jawaharnagar in Mango.
According to information, a group of Mango residents led by Sahadat Khan had staged demonstration in front of the Mango police station. The agitators set up a blockade demanding arrest of the some local youths namely Mohammed Shadab, Mohammed Shibu who had been fueling trouble at Jawahar Nagar locality.
The protesters had set up the blockade, which continued for two hours. When the police arrived at the spot , the personnel tried to to lift the blockade, the protesters got violent and started pelting stone at the cops.
The protesters not only threw stones at the police, resulting in injuries to two policemen, but they also damaged police vehicles.
As the situation was taking an ugly turn, superintendent of police (City) arrived at the scene. But the protests intensified the stone-pelting leading the police to drive them away from the blockade spot.
Led by the City SP, Anand, the police subsequently raided several places in Jawaharnagar and arrested Sahadat and Ayesa.
Officer-in-charge, Mango police station, Fulan Nath said they would arrest more youths shortly as they had targeted the policemen in the name of staging protest in front of the Mango police station.
” We are investigating the incident. We arrested the protesters, as they staged a blockade on the road, causing vehicular communication to get affected seriously,” said Nath.
The officer-in-charge said both Sahadat and Ayesha have been sent to Ghaghidih Central Jail after their production before a judicial magistrate.
