Villagers take JE as hostage in West Singhbhum

Chaibasa:  Junior Engineer (JE) was held hostage by villagers for hours after the villagers questioned the quality of the road being constructed by the Rural Development Department in Taratra village of Manoharpur block of West Singhbhum district. Due to lack of quality of road construction, the angry villagers immediately stopped construction work.

During this time there was a scuffle in the heated debate between the contractor Nandlal and the villagers about the construction work. After getting the information of the incident, the matter was called off after the intervention of the police administration. In Tartara village, the dispute on the road under construction by the Rural Development Department is increasing.

In this episode, the villagers beat up Nandalal Gupta, his son Nilesh Gupta and nephew Vishnu Gupta when the dispute escalated on the spot. At the same time, Jey was held hostage on the spot. After this, the Manoharpur Police came to the spot and interrogated the matter and took JE out from the villagers and took him along. The police have started taking action on the matter.

Villagers had also banned work at the workplace yesterday, alleging irregularities in road construction. After the incident, JE said that the information of the case has been given to the senior officials. Further action will be taken only after their instructions.

According to information received from the villagers, the second day after the villagers stopped work, the censor started work on the road again, citing the departmental order. On Thursday, JE Durga Soren of the department also reached the workplace to check the road as per the promise given to the villagers.
