Villagers demand cancellation of Jindal’s public hearing on 29

Jamshedpur : Villagers are protesting the upcoming Jindal Steel and Power Ltd
at Potka.

Adelegation of the villagers under the banner of Gopalpur Gramsabha and Sangharsh Samiti today
handed over a memorandum to DC and alleged that the company is not consulting the villagers
while setting up the plant.

The villagers also demanded to call off the public hearing scheduled on January 29 in protest.

“Just setting up steel and power plants will not result to progress. Our country has planned hundreds of special economic zones, steel plants and power plants but the issue of land
acquisition has met stiff resistance from villagers all across the country.

The sentiments of villagers are same all over,” said a protester. Participating activists claimed that the company is yet to complete the land acquisition process.

It has taken 45 acre land while it falsely claims to take over 280 acres of land.

They said that the villagers especially the farmers are not ready to handover their land to any industrial projects.

Instead of proceeding with the land acquisition process, the State Government should work
inimproving agricultural activities in the region.

Despite police claims of effective security measures, crime against women seems to continue unabated in the city.

The once safe city has seen several incidents of violence against women in the last few days.

The spate of instances of murder, rape and sexual harassment in the past one week alone has
instilled a sense of fear in the residents of the township.
