Moonka faction holds sway in Chamber polls, nine elected unopposed in the executive body
Election for two posts of VP on September 28 SCCI poll date
Jamshedpur, September 18:More than a week before the biennial election to the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the Vijay Anand Moonka faction hegemony in the trader’s outfit executive committee is evident.
After the last date for filing of nomination on September 18, out of total of 11 posts of office bearers, nine posts have been occupied by the Moonka faction.
All the nine office bearers including the president have been elected unopposed. Although its official announcement has not been made yet. The posts on which the election has been held unopposed include two posts of president, general secretary, treasurer, vice- presidents and four posts of Secretary. The two posts for which elections are to be held include vice-president (PRW) and vice president (industry).
For both the above posts, Satyanarayan Agarwal and Mahesh Sonthalia have filed nomination from Moonka faction while Mukesh Mittal and Sandeep Murarka have filled the form for the above two posts respectively from the opposition camp.
The elections process for SCCI, the oldest and largest trader’s outfit of Kolhan began on September 13. The nomination papers were distributed between September 13 and 17. Nominations were filed on September 18. On September 22, the five returning officers will scrutinize the nomination papers. The deadline for withdrawal of nominations has been fixed at 7 pm on September 23. The final list of candidates will be released on the same day after 9 pm. Election would take place on September 28.
The trader body has earlier notified that the 69th annual general meeting will take place a day prior to the polls.
The election will be conducted by a five-member team. The election committee comprises RK Jhunjhunwala (CA), PS Sen (Advocate), Satyanarayan Khandelwal (Advocate), Deepak Dokania (Entrepreneur) and Jagdish Khandelwal (CA).
This time due to Covid restrictions members will be able to attend the AGM virtually. AGM will be held a day before the elections on September 27. The next day, 28 September, e-voting will be conducted in the Chamber building.
The oldest traders body of the state (second in undivided Bihar) SCCI which was constituted in 1950 has close to 1100 members and is the largest body looking after businessmen interest in Kolhan region comprising East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts.
