Jamshedpur: Jubilation broke out on Friday in the city as the BJP regained the Jamshedpur parliamentary seat after witnessing a bitter defeat from JVM in 2011 by-elections. Enthusiastic party cadres burst crackers and distributed sweets anticipating �victory� soon after the final results were announced.
�We are happy that the party has regained the Jamshedpur parliamentary seat. Every party worker had put in hard efforts and their work deserves to be lauded. Mahato�s charismatic personality and his vision of development favoured him, voters has shown faith in his leadership,� said Rajkumar Srivastava, president, district BJP.
Prior to this the celebrations in the BJP camp started in the morning itself when the results of first rounds were announced. Mahato had gained early lead, which infused enthusiasm among the party workers. Drum players played the victory tune after announcements of each round of counting exercise.
Leaders and supporters of all three parties in fray had gathered in large numbers outside the strong room at Jamshedpur C-operative College in support of their candidates. Several parties had constructed makeshifts tents. However, it was the tent of BJP that was
brimming with joy with every passing round. After the announcements of every round results it was the BJP camp of supporters that rejoiced in jubilation.
Men and women wearing party caps carrying flags and posters of raised slogans in favour of former Chief Minister.
A brief brawl was also reported between party workers of BJP and JVM after some of the BJP activists started dancing at the tent. Upset with the results trend, JVM protested which led to a scuffle. However, timely intervention of the police pacified the party workers.
The BJP office at Sakchi was also bustling with activity since the counting exercise commenced in the morning. After the results were announced in the evening party workers came out on the roads and burst crackers and distributed sweets.
Similar scenes were witnessed at Jugsalai, Burmamines, Sakchi, Bistupur and Sidhgora with party workers distributing sweets and bursting crackers.
�We are more than happy that the party has regained the Jamshedpur seat. The victory of Mahato indicates that people have faith in his rule as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand. Moreover, Dr Ajoy Kumar did nothing for the city during her tenure, voters have no choice but shown him the doors,� said Satbir Singh Somu, a senior leader of youth wing of BJP.
On the other hand silence prevailed at the camp of JVM after the defeat of Dr Ajoy Kumar. None was willing to speak over his defeat. The scene of gloom was similar at the camps of JMM and other parties. Party leaders were sad with the results.
�Our senior leaders will sit and review the performance of the party in the elections. However, we do accept that Modi wave gripped the voters,� said a district leader of JMM.
