Ranchi, October 15: Varun Ranjan has been appointed as the new Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ranchi, replacing Manjunath Bhajantri. It may be mentioned that just days after Manjunath Bhajantri was appointed as Ranchi’s DC, the Election Commission raised objections to his appointment, leading to Varun Ranjan’s placement in the role.
Varun Ranjan, a 2014 batch IAS officer, took charge from the outgoing DC Manjunath Bhajantri on Tuesday. Previously, Ranjan served as the DC of Dhanbad but was removed following allegations of negligence during a program attended by the Prime Minister.
Manjunath Bhajantri has now been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of JSLPS (Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society), while Mrityunjay Kumar Varnwal, who held that post, has been made the MNREGA Commissioner.
The Jharkhand government had transferred six IAS officers on September 30, including the DCs of Ranchi, Jamtara, Latehar, and Pakur districts.
