Jamshedpur: Literary organization Urdu Bhavan hosted a special program on New Year’s Eve to celebrate the legacy of renowned Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib. The event took place at the residence of the organization’s treasurer, Syed Sajid Parvez, in Jawaharnagar. The evening featured the cutting of a cake in Ghalib’s memory and a gathering of sher-o-shayari.
Dr. Mohammad Reyaz, Principal of Karim City College, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Haji Mumtaz Ahmed, Director of Daya Hospital, Mango, was the guest of honor. Haji Mumtaz Ahmed was recognized for his outstanding contributions to public health services during and after the pandemic. The honor was presented by the chief guest Dr. Mohammad Reyaz and Urdu Bhavan President Dr. Hasan Imam Malik.
In his welcome address, Dr. Hasan Imam Malik emphasized the organization’s commitment to promoting Urdu literature in the city and expressed gratitude to Tata Steel for its support in preserving cultural and literary heritage. Senior poet Anwar Adeeb chaired the session, adding a touch of literary elegance to the event.
Prominent poets, including Hasrat Nizami, Safdar Haroon, Waliullah Wali, Safiullah Safi, Saklain Mushtaq, Farhan Khan Farhan, Saddam Ghani, Gauhar Aziz, and Anwar Adeeb, recited their ghazals, captivating the audience.
The chief guest, Dr. Mohammad Reyaz, expressed optimism about the bright future of Urdu, observing the talent of the new generation of poets. Gauhar Aziz skillfully anchored the event, while Dr. Syed Zahid Parvez delivered the vote of thanks. The program’s arrangements were managed by Syed Sajid Parvez.
