Jamshedpur : XLRI (Xavier School of Management) is to hold ‘22nd Annual JRD Tata Oration on Business Ethics’ on 7th December, 2013 at the Tata Auditorium, XLRI Campus, Jamshedpur.
This year the oration will be delivered by Dr. M. M. Pallam Raju, Honorable Minister of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
The session is to be attended by H M Nerurkar, former MD, Tata Steel and chairman, Board of Governors, XLRI, Fr. E Abraham, director of XLRI and Pranabesh Ray, dean Academics at XLRI.
E Abraham commented, “XLRI in association with select Tata Group Companies established the JRD Tata Foundation in Business Ethics in 1991, to mark their long-standing commitment and contribution to business ethics in India.
The Foundation seeks to address itself by publicly affirming the urgent need for ethics in business and the need to bring about a conducive culture in which it can thrive. An increasing number of organizations are realizing the importance of ethics in business in today’s world.”

Dr. Pallam Raju graduated in 1986 from Temple University, Philadelphia, USA with Masters in Business Administration. He has worked as a Research Assistant at Temple University, as a Research Associate at Federal Group Incorporated, a consulting firm at Boston and with Norsk Data A.S., an Information Technology firm in Oslo, Norway.
Pallam Raju was first elected to the Indian Parliament in 1989 and was its youngest member during the 9th Lok Sabha. He was re-elected to the 14th Lok Sabha in 2004 and 15th Lok Sabha in 2009. He has been an active member of the Indian National Congress Party and held several important positions in the state and at the National level.
He has served as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology during August 2004 – January 2006.
Pallam Raju was appointed Minister of State for Defence, Government of India, in the Council of Ministers of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, in January 2006, which he held until May 2009.
He was reappointed after his election, as Minister of state for Defence in June 2009 until Oct 2012 when he was appointed as the Union Minister for Human Resource Development.
As one of the longest serving Ministers in the Defence portfolio, Pallam Raju has travelled the Country extensively in the discharge of his duties and has also lead many important delegations on multiple missions to Various countries like U.K, France, Norway, Singapore, Belarus, South Korea, Bangladesh, Mongolia etc. and was an active participant in International fora like the SHANGRI-LA DIALOGUE at Singapore.
He has been the first Minister in the Ministry of Defence to fly the frontline fighter Sukhoi-30 MKI in March 2011.
