Jamshedpur, Sept 26: After a marathon meeting between the UCIL management and the employees’ Joint Uranium Sangharsh Samiti led by Babulal Soren, it was agreed that bonus payment would be made @ 55 percent of the employees’ basic pay and that the amounts would be disbursed before the ensuing Durga Puja. The UCIL management team at the meeting organized at the UCIL guest house included Technical Director Rajesh Kumar, General Managers SK Sharma and Chanchal Manna, Accounts Officer TK Mukherjee and Personnel Officer SK Sengupta while the union representatives comprised Babulal Soren, Surjit Singh, Rajaram Singh and Ramesh Majhi.
The agreement, however, did not go in well among the UCIL employees who were on the sixth day of strike. The employees argued that the bonus agreed upon were on the figures of FY 2022-’23 as the financial year for the period was still continuing. Instead, the employees argued that the bonus terms should have been based on the figures of FY 2021-’23.
It may be mentioned that workers under a common platform of recognized unions, the Joint Union Sangharsh Samiti, had been on strike since the past six days. After signing of the bonus accord, Babulal Soren urged the protestors to call off the strike and resum normal work.
