U-9 prodigy Shivanya Mahto shines on Jamshedpur Super League debut

Jamshedpur, December 17: Nine-year-old Shivanya Mahto is quickly emerging as a name to watch at the Jamshedpur Football School at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. Enrolled in the Under-9 batch, Shivanya is one of just two girls in their batch training alongside boys under the guidance of experienced coaches, showcasing confidence and skill well beyond her age.

Her talent came to the fore during the Jamshedpur Super League, where Shivanya marked her debut in style by scoring a stunning hat-trick against an all-boys team. The performance not only turned heads on the field but also underlined the growing opportunities for young girls in grassroots football in the city.

For her parents, Ritesh Kumar Mahato and Uttara Rani Mahato, the decision to enrol Shivanya at the football school was driven by a larger dream. “We want Shivanya to one day play for the Indian Football Team. That dream made us choose Jamshedpur Football School,” said Uttara Rani Mahato. “Here, she is getting the right environment, proper coaching, and the confidence to compete with boys on equal terms.”

Uttara also highlighted the importance of platforms like the Jamshedpur Super League in a young player’s journey. “JSL is giving her the perfect platform to hone her skills. Playing regular matches and learning from the experienced coaches of Jamshedpur FC is helping her grow every day, both as a footballer and as a person,” she added.

Shivanya’s story reflects a changing landscape in Jamshedpur’s grassroots football, where talent is being encouraged irrespective of gender.
