Jamshedpur, April 29: East Bengal defeated Shillong Lajong FC by 1-0 in their final encounter of the Under-19 I-league at J R D Tata Sports Complex on Tuesday.
Shillong Lajong toiled hard for an equaliser after East Bengal striker Jiten Murmu put the team in lead on the 18th minute. Jiten received a measured cross from right flank and sent in a powerful header, leaving rival custodian unmoved.
Shillong Lajong, who had six points from two wins and three losses (including this match), had a golden chance to score but the player shot wide off the target.
With this win, East Bengal accumulated 10 points from three wins, one loss and one draw and finished second behind Tata Football Academy (TFA) who had 13 points from 5 matches including four wins and a draw and were crowned the champions.
