Jamshedpur: Two passengers were detained by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Tatanagar railway station on Sunday after they were found carrying a large quantity of gold and silver ornaments. The youths had arrived from Howrah on the Gitanjali Express and were taken into custody following their suspicious behavior.
The RPF, along with the Government Railway Police (GRP), immediately alerted the District Election Department. In light of the upcoming assembly elections, strict monitoring is in place across the city at key locations, including major crossings, airports, and railway stations. The two passengers were detained as part of this intensified scrutiny.
Upon searching their belongings, authorities recovered a substantial amount of gold and silver items, including Lakshmi-Ganesh coins, silver bowls, idols, and a significant amount of cash. Officials brought in a local goldsmith to weigh the recovered goods for further investigation.
It is believed that the items were being transported to the city for sale during the upcoming Deepawali festival. However, due to heightened security measures for the assembly elections, the individuals were detained for further questioning. The authorities have not yet disclosed further details as the investigation is ongoing.
