Two lynched for stealing goats at Potka, another youth injured

Jamshedpur : In a bizarre incident two persons were lynched by villagers allegedly for trying to steal goats from Pichhli village under Potka police station area, about 15 Kms away from here in the wee hours of Thursday.

The victims were identified as Deepak Mahato and Joya, both in their mid-twenty and residents of Parsudih and Raj Kharsawan in East Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts respectively.

Agitated over rising cases of theft in the village the villagers attacked the thieves who had entered a house where a herd of goats was tied. Villagers swooped over the two thieves and started beating them with iron-rods.

The villagers also assaulted a third youth, Sonu Soy. A resident of Kharawan, Sonu (17) has been admitted to the MGM Medical College and Hospital, where his condition was stated to be serious.

The police have seized the bodies of the victims to the medical college mortuary at Dimna for the post-mortem.
Senior police officers, including the SP (rural) Devendra Sharma confirmed that the villagers killed two persons for allegedly stealing goats.

“We are investigating the incident and we are going to identify the culprits and lodge case against those involved in the killing,” said the rural SP.
