Jamshedpur : In a major road mishap at Kankedih village in Patamda, near Jamshedpur two persons were killed on the stop.
Those killed were identified as Rajendra Nath Mahto (45) and Baijnath Singh (40), both residents of Kumir village in Patamda. The identity of the three injured could not be ascertained yet. They were hit by a speedy dumper while they were enjoying their morning cup of tea at a road side hotel.
The victims were rescued and rushed to Tata Main Hospital emergency, where two of the injured declared as brought dead.
As the news spread a police party reached the spot and nabbed the driver away from the spot, as the villagers had set up a blockade on the road at Kankedih village.
As a result of the blockade, vehicles that were coming from Purulia in West Bengal to Jamshedpur remained stranded on the road. The vehicles that remained stuck up include trucks, passenger buses and private cars.
Officer-in-charge, Patamda police station, Ramchandra Mahto confirmed that the driver was drunk and the mishap occurred as the driver lost control over the vehicle.
The vehicle hit the people and rammed indie the hotel. “We have seized the dumper and taken the driver under custody. We have also summoned the owner of the dumper,” he noted.
An eye witness said that those injured were screaming for help, where as others were writhing in pain. “Despite the vehicle getting overturned, I somehow managed to help some of the seriously injured,” he said.
