Jamshedpur: In a heartbreaking incident, two young school students lost their lives on Monday morning as they tragically drowned while taking a bath in a pond. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and has left their families and friends in a state of deep grief.

Two students, 17-year-old Srijan Raj and 18-year-old Shobhit Kumar Singh died while taking bath in Jillingoda check dam under Gamharia police station of Seraikela-Kharsawan district. The incident took place at 6 am. Both the drowned students had reached here to take a bath with their six friends, while taking a bath, Srijan Raj and Shobhit Kumar Singh went into deep water, where both of them died due to drowning.
After the incident, the bodies of both the drowned students were fished out by the efforts of the local people. The deceased students were identified as Srijan Raj, 17-year-old son of Sanjay Kumar, Head Clerk, Legal Services Authority Office, Jamshedpur District Civil Court, and Ajit Kumar, a resident of Laxmi Nagar Telco. Shobhit Kumar Singh is 18 years old. Both are 12th class students in MNPS. The deceased students had come out of their house at 6 in the morning saying that they wanted to play cricket. But both the dead students went to Jhilingoda check dam to take bath, where both of them died due to drowning.
“As per our information, the students had decided to cool off from the scorching heat after school hours and ventured into the dam without realizing the potential dangers that lay beneath the surface. Tragically, the students encountered difficulties while swimming and were unable to reach safety. Upon realizing the situation, onlookers immediately alerted the nearby authorities and attempted to rescue the students,” said a police official.

Local residents, police personnel, and a team of divers arrived promptly at the scene and initiated a frantic search and rescue operation.
After an exhaustive search that lasted for several hours, the lifeless bodies of the students were recovered from the dam. Emergency medical services were immediately called to the scene, and the students were rushed to the nearest hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival. The incident has left the entire community in a state of shock and mourning.
Local law enforcement agencies have launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the drownings. They are examining the safety measures in place at the pond and are determined to ascertain whether any negligence or lapses contributed to the unfortunate incident.
