Two Jamshedpur school boys drown in check dam after bunking classes, one body recovered

Jamshedpur, April 9: In a tragic incident, two schoolboys lost their lives after drowning in a check dam built over the Kharkai River in the Asangi area under RIT police station limits of Adityapur on Thursday.
The victims have been identified as Govin Thomas and Raunak Bhardwaj, both Class IX students of Central Public School.


The duo had gone to bathe in the check dam along with a third student, Prashant Kumar. During the outing, Govin and Raunak reportedly ventured into deeper waters and drowned.
Prashant Kumar managed to escape and promptly alerted locals about the incident. Police, along with local divers, launched a rescue operation and recovered the body of one of the students. Efforts are still underway to locate the second victim.
The incident has triggered outrage and grief among the victims’ families and local residents, who have demanded better safety measures at the site to prevent such tragedies.
