Two Indian-Origin Apps Named Finalists for 2026 Apple Design Awards

New Delhi (IANS): Tech giant Apple announced on Tuesday that two Indian-origin apps—Katha Room and Guitar Wiz—have been named finalists for the prestigious 2026 Apple Design Awards. The global awards recognize outstanding innovation, inclusivity, and creativity in app and game design across Apple’s developer community.

Apple selected 36 finalists across six categories this year to celebrate exceptional design experiences and technical achievements on iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionPro platforms.

Preserving Culture and Enhancing Accessibility

The two Indian apps earned recognition in categories that highlight social responsibility and user empowerment:

• Katha Room (Social Impact Category): This bedtime stories app brings Indian folk tales to life using rich, colorful visuals inspired by the traditional Gond art form. Apple praised the app for its deep commitment to cultural representation and immersive sound design.

• Guitar Wiz (Inclusivity Category): Developed by solo Indian developer Bijoy Thangaraj using SwiftUI, this all-in-one toolkit helps guitarists of all abilities play with greater autonomy. Built with accessibility at its core, the app features robust VoiceOver integration, Dynamic Type support, and Increased Contrast options to provide spoken guidance on pitch, chords, and finger placements.

A Growing Legacy of Indian Developers

The Apple Design Awards annually honor developers who deliver exceptional user experiences across six main categories: Delight and Fun, Inclusivity, Innovation, Interaction, Social Impact, and Visuals and Graphics.

Indian developers continue to make their mark on this global stage. Past finalists include Lumy, Denim, and EVOLVE in 2025, alongside the meditation app Meditate in 2024.
