Two get jail with Rs 7000 fine in extortion case

Jamshedpur, Feb 20: The court of MK Sharma, First Class Judicial Magistrate, sentenced two persons, Shukla Patel and Shankar Lal Keshri, to a jail term of two and a half year each with a fine of Rs 7000 each in an extortion case of Parsudih PS.

The case dates back to 2016 when Parsudih resident Navinder Kaur had registered a police complaint against her tenants, the accused duo, for demanding Rs 2 lakh in extortion. Navinder had demanded rent dues from her tenants who allegedly refused to pay the same. When she asked them to vacant the house, they demanded rangdari, she alleged.

An FIR was lodged against Patel and Keshri under Section 387 of IPC in GR Case No. 2339/16. Senior Advocate Kumar Shankar Das alias Jolly Das represented Navinder Kaur in this case. The court pronounced the accused persons guilty by placing reliance on the testimony of witnesses produced by the Prosecution.
