Jamshedpur : A day after two persons were shot dead and another injured late in the evening at Mango, the local residents blocked Dimna Road for about three hours on Thursday in protest against the twin murder.
The protestors squatted on the road in support of their demands. A long queue of vehicles could be soon on the road as vehicular movement came to stand still.
According to the information, a gang of three bike-borne criminals fired shots at 21-year-old youth Baiju Shaw at Laxminagar on Road No 1 in Sankosai on Wednesday. After which, they attacked a newly-wed girl Shakuntala Mishra of that locality before firing at yet another youth, Sonu Kumar Rajak. All the three were soon rushed to the Tata Main Hospital, where Baiju and Shakuntala were declared as brought dead. The injured Sonu is undergoing treatment there.
As mark of protest against the incident the local residents block the busy Dimna Road and demanded the removal of the Olidih thana outpost’s ( TOP) officer-in-charge Mahesh Prasad and also raised voice for adequate compensation to the members of bereaved families of the slain Baiju Shaw and Shakuntala Mishra.
The agitators were also demanding the police to immediately arrest the three youth who were involved in the murder. Political leaders Binod Singh from BJP, Rajkumar Srivastava, Rajesh Sau, D Singh and JVM leader Abhay Singh, Feroz Khan, Ajit Singh, Mallu Singh, Deepak Pandey, Chandra Gorai and Congress leader Om Prakash Singh Guddu and hundreds of local residents also lend their support.
As the news of blockade spread superintendent of police (city) Kartik S and deputy superintendents of police ( DSPs)– Amit Kumar, Birendra Prasad and J Kerketta rushed to spot and assured that necessary steps will be taken to detect those involved in the twin murders.
The blockade, which was put up at around 9.30 am, and was lifted at 1 pm. The administration provided Rs 10,000 as the initial compensation after which the agitators agreed to lift the blockade.
Meanwhile, the police said the assailants had used nine MM pistol and had fired over 10 rounds of shots. The police have recovered six empty cartridges from the scene of murder.
One of the victims Shakuntala was married to Vinod Mishra on November 24 last year. As the murder victim was a student of Jamshedpur Women’s College’s BA part III and she was supposed to appear in her exam, she had stayed at parents’ house in Sankusai instead of going to her inlaw’s house.
