Twin escalators to operate in night as well at Tatanagar

Jamshedpur: Tatanagar Railway Administration has announced that the twin escalators at the Tatanagar railway station will operate in the night as well. The escalators on platform 1 and 3 used to be shut from 10pm to 8am to avoid their misuse by mischief-mongers, especially streetkids.

Senior divisional commercial manager of Chakradharpur division Bhaskaran said they had decided to deploy two railway staff to guard the escalators.

Platform No. 1 was equipped with an escalator ( or moving stairways ) , a lift and a ramp. Tatanagar, the second busiest station of South Eastern Railway, is the second to boast the escalator facility. Howrah station in Bengal, the busiest on the South Eastern Railway network, has escalators connecting its old and new complexes. The facility was introduced in 2011.

Tatanagar railway station witnesses a daily traffic of over 90- mail, express and passenger trains which either originate from Tatanagar of go via that station. The daily passenger footfall is close to 50,000.

The railway officials also decided that the elevator on platform 3 will start functioning from September. This will be the second elevator at Tatanagar. The first elevator started operating in July on platform 1.
