Jamshedpur, Jan 15: Huge fairs are organized at various places in and around the city on Makar Sankranti. People from various localities arrive at these fairs with attractive idols of Tusu and Chaudal and the winners are handsomely rewarded. The huge crowd witnessed on this occasion signifies the importance of this festival. Jharkhand Sanskritik Kala Kendra will organize Tusu Mela at Sonari Domohani on Wednesday where many dignitaries will be present. Such fairs will also be organized at Bhuiandih, Pardih, Birsanagar, Bhilai Pahari and other places on different dates.
Gopal Maidan will be the Venue of Tusu Mela on Tuesday, January 21 where thousands of people from far and near converge to participate in traditional dances and songs. People come along with Tusu and Chaudal idols decorated and dressed attractively. Winning groups take home many prizes. Even consolation prizes are worth thousands of rupees.
