TSAF Jamshedpur athletes win 17 medals at East Zone Sport Climbing Championship

Jamshedpur, July 18: The second day of the 24th IMF East Zone Sport Climbing Championship 2022 at JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur witnessed exuberance with most athletes trained under TSAF (Tata Steel Adventure Foundation) bagging medals. So far, TSAF climbers have won 17 out of the 21 medals at stake in the lead and bouldering events in the sub-junior, junior, and open men and women categories. For some of them, it is their first time competing in a championship. 

Anisha Varma of TSAF won gold medal in Lead women’s category while Nitu Mahto of TSAF and Mahua Biswas of West Bengal won silver and bronze medal respectively.

In junior boy’s lead event TSAF athletes Ronit Bandra, Abhishek Rawat and Suraj Singh Thakur were the winners.  Men’s lead event was also dominated by TSAF athletes as Aman Verma, Sachin Saroj and Suraj Singh won medals.

Joga Purty of TSAF won the gold, Aastha Rani of TSAF bagged silver and Shrishti Das of West Bengal claimed bronze in junior girl’s lead category.

In junior boy’s bouldering event TSAF’s Ronit Bandra, Suraj Singh and Abhishek Rawat won medals.

Aman Verma of TSAF won gold medal in men’s bouldering event while Suraj Singh and Sachin Saroj also of TSAF won silver and bronze medal.

Junior girl’s bouldering event saw Joga Purty of TSAF won gold, Astha Rani Bhuyan of  TSAF bagged silver while Laxmi Soy of TSAF claimed bronze.

TSAF Sport Climbing Academy is home to 13 national-level athletes who are trained in the field and have won laurels for the country at international sports forums. Many athletes training under the grassroots development initiative, ‘Masti Ki Pathshala’, were also on the winners’ list of the championship. 

The youngest candidate was 4 years old whereas the oldest was around 35 years. The officials and delegates have worked hard to get the routes ready for the upcoming events. The athletes are excited for the final leg of the events to be held on July 20, 2022.
