Party activists paid homage to the departed leader at Baguria, spot where the popular leader was gunned down and Gamharia, his native place in March 2007.

At Baghuria under Ghatsila subdivision party members reached the spot, where Sunil Mahato was eliminated by Maoist on March 4, 2007, and paid their homage.

Sunil Mahato, the popular leader of the JMM was elected to 14th Lok Sabha, first time defeating his nearest rival Abha Mahato of BJP by over 1 lakh votes.

Suman Mahato, the wife of late Sunil Mahato is the incumbent MP. Talking to the newsmen on the occasion, Amrit Mahato, said that that the Jharkhand activists, who sacrificed their prime time of their lives for separate statehood cause, should be given due recognition and the government should sign an accord with them on the line of Assam/Bodoland/Mizoram Accords signed with their respective state governments.

“Repeated governments have failed to give due recognition to the freedom fighters. It is really lamentable that around 10000 participants of separate Jharkhand movement have not got any facility and were left to face criminal charges.

In neighbouring Bihar the government has announced pension, free medical and traveling facilities for those who took part in JP Movement,” he said.

Another JMM leader demanded that Jharkhand activists should be recognised as Jharkhand freedom fighters and should be given free medical and travel facilities, free higher education to their wards, 50 per cent reservation in appointment of Chairman post in all state-owned Boards and Corporation and contract in all development projects.
