Transporter falls to death from Union Hyundai Sakchi car showroom

Jamshedpur, June 13: In a shocking incident, a 65-year-old transporter was fatally injured after he fell from the first floor of a Union Hyundai car showroom on Kalimati Road under Golmuri police station area on Monday afternoon.

The victim, Ashok Singh was owner of Chauparan-Chhapra Roadways, a transport company. He met his tragic end at about†3 p.m. when he had gone to buy a second hand car from the showroom.

Singh, a resident of adjoining Kashidih, sustained fatal head injury after he fell from the first floor. He was rushed to Tata Main Hospital where the victim succumbed to his injury.

According to sources, the victim had gone to the first floor to see a car, but before entering the section where the cars were parked, he had stopped near a door and peeped into the elevator which was not grilled, but only loosely guarded with three levels of chains.

He lost his balance and fell down on the platform of the elevator on the ground floor, which was meant for lifting the cars to the first floor.†

Vikas Singh (40), an acquaintance of the victim who had †accompanied him at the time of the mishap, said the victim had fallen upside down crashing his head on the roof of the elevator’s platform about 12 feet down the first floor.†

After the matter came to the notice of the police,†officer-in-charge, Golmuri police station, Srinivash came into action and inspected the place of occurrence. City DSP Animesh Nethani and Sakchi Police officials reached the showroom and started investigation into the matter.

The officer-in-charge of Golmuri police station said they would register a case against showroom owner for the mishap death taken place due to unsafe condition. †

Several locals gathered outside the showroom, which led to traffic snarl on the Kalimati Road.

The family members and deceased’s business partners started demanding compensation money from the showroom owner.

After the showroom owner Arun Ahuja came to the shop a meeting was held wherein local Congress leader Jitendar Singh, victimís business partner Vikas Singh, Pramod Singh Bundela, Tinku Singh and Rounak Singh participated.

After several rounds, the matter was finally settled and the showroom owner agreed to provide Rs 8 lakh as compensation money. †The showroom owner will deposit Rs 4 lakh each to the bank accounts of two sons of the deceased.


Postmortem of the body will be held on Tuesday, while Singh’s family members have decided to perform his last rites in Hazaribagh.
