Jamshedpur : The cold and foggy weather in North India have affected train schedules especially those coming from New Delhi and Bihar.
As many as four trains — New Delhi – Puri Neelanchal Express, New Delhi- Bhubaneshwar Sampark Kranti Express, Bhubaneshwar- New Delhi Rajdhani Express and Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Superfast Express are getting delayed at Tatanagar for the last two days.
According to railway officials, the Puri-bound Purushottam Superfast Express arrived at Tatanagar five hours behind schedule. The train was running late due to fog. The schedule of Sampark Kranti Express heading for Bhubaneshwar from New Delhi was also hit, as the train was delayed by about 12 hours hours. Rajdhani Express, which arrives at Tatanagar at 10.50am, was delayed by several hours.
Station manager at Tatanagar OP Sharma said trains were getting delayed due to excessive fog.
Officials at the railway enquiry section said that the Patna-Tata-Durg South Bihar Express arrived almost two hours late and the Danapur-Tatanagar Superfast Express was running late by about three hours.
Railway officials said that dense fog in the norther parts of the country is taking a toll on movement of passenger trains. ” We have opened an extra counter at the railway station for refund of tickets and also to inform the passengers about the latest status of trains,” said an official of Tatanagar.
Numerous passengers have been facing trouble due to the delay in long-distance trains and the situation is unchanged for the past few days. Trains for other destinations like Mumbai and Kolkata were also running late.
Some passengers said they had to travel standing though they had confirmed tickets. A few even lodged complaints with the station superintendent.
The Tatanagar station assumes importance in view because it is located on the Howrah-Mumbai main route. Several important trains travel via Tatanagar, including the high-profile Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express.
The station sees a daily traffic of 90 mail, express and passenger trains, besides a footfall of more than 60,000 passengers.
