Traffic rise, less parking and road widening leads to system problem in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, December 3: The increasing number of vehicles in Jamshedpur has become a problem for the traffic system.

In comparison, parking arrangements and widening of roads have not been done. In the six financial years from the financial year 2018-2019 to the year 2023-2024 (till October), 3 lakh 27 thousand 860 new vehicles have come on the roads. Of these, private vehicles are 3 lakh 437. In the current financial year 2023-2024, 4,355 new commercial vehicles came on the roads from April to October. 31,850 new non-commercial vehicles have been purchased. Of these, two-wheelers are 26,404.

About five kilometers of road has been widened in two years. But four main roads have been closed. This has affected the traffic system of the city.

Tata Steel had planned the Eastern and Western Corridor. Under the Eastern Corridor, a flyover was to be built from the station to Agrico. The bridge was to be constructed from behind Timken. It remained incomplete. Apart from this, the construction work of the road going out from NML Chowk to Bhilaipahari, Hurlung to Galudih and Govindpur has not been completed yet.

There is a huge shortage of traffic police personnel to regulate the traffic. There are about 30 officers and 75 traffic police personnel in the district looking after the traffic system.

DSP Traffic Animesh Gupta said that continuous efforts are being made to improve the traffic. Many roads are being made one way. Steps are being taken after understanding all the nuances.
