Jamshedpur : The district police have launched a massive drive to nab for two bike-borne criminals who shot at and seriously injured a Delhi based trader before looting him near Ghoda Chowk under Jugsalai police station area last night.
The victim, identified as Ashwini Poddar (48) was a resident of Delhi. His condition is serious at the Tata Main Hospital.
According to information Poddar, had sustained two bullet injuries. The incident took place when the trader was waiting for an auto-rickshaw at the Ghoda Chowk on the Station Road.
Poddar was carrying a brief-case while waiting for an auto-rickshaw for going to Tatanagar station when two bike-borne criminals appeared before him and tried to snatch the brief-case at gun-point. When he resisted the criminals, the criminal snatched the brief-case and sped away toward the Tatanagar railway station.
As the news of the shooting spread, a police party led by Jugsalai police station’s officer-in-charge, Ashok Kumar Giri had arrived at the spot followed by the arrival of deputy superintendent of police (law and order) BN Singh.
The DSP (law and order) who had immediately gone to the Tata Main Hospital, said that he had talked to the victim immediately after.
“The victim informed that the two criminals were in their mid-twenties. One of them who was riding pillion and opened fire was a tall guy. And the one who was riding the bike was short one. The victim would identify the duo if produced before them,” said Singh.
Officials of Tata Main Hospital said that the condition of the gun-shot victim Aswini Poddar was stable but serious.
