Trade unions observe Save India Day in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Aug 9: The labour organisations of the country celebrated August 9 as Save India Day.

August 9, the day in 1942 when Mahatma Gandhi called for the British colonisers to �Quit India, as �do or die� or a final push to eject them from the country, was observed as �Save India� day by over one crore of the working population across the country on Sunday, said central trade unions.

The call to �Save India� was given by 10 central trade unions (CTUs) to protest against the �anti-people� policies pushed by the Narendra Modi government under the cover of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The call saw wide participation across states, where farmers, teachers, students, public sector employees along with other sections of labourers came out on the streets across states, protesting massive job losses, wage cuts, lay-off and privatisation among others. Labour unions in Jamshedour took out rally at different parts of the city while protest was held at Tatanagar Railway Station. Sit in protests and rally were taken out all over Jharkhand.

Trade unions on 9 August protested actions by the ruling class against handing over the establishment of public enterprises such as defense, coal, steel, telecom, banks, insurance, railways, petroleum, airports and ports to other important industries including indigenous and foreign capitalists. Organized and declared a nationwide protest against the central government’s anti-national tactics.
