Jamshedpur : Sudden cardiac arrest i.e. sudden stoppage of heart is a major health concern throughout the world.
The cardiac arrest happens primarily when heart stops pumping oxygen along with blood to the
brain and other organs.
If heart is not restarted within 4 minutes, death or permanent disability is possible in such a situation.
Hence it is imperative that people accompanying the cardiac arrest victim are trained to
take appropriate action with immediate effect.
To help address this issue, Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, Tata Main hospital (TMH), in collaboration with Peerless Hospital, Kolkata, has taken an initiative to launch a three-day training programme, scheduled from Feb 5-7, 2014, for medical professionals to develop them as trainers.
TMH doctors will also provide Basic Life Support (BLS) training, advocated by American Heart Association (AHA), to the students of various schools to generate public awareness.
The inaugural function of the training session kicked off today at Tata Main Hospital Auditorium.
AVM (Retd.) Dr T P Madhusudanan, General Manager, Medical Services addressed the gathering of medical professionals as Chief Guest, and highlighted the importance of such training. Dr.
Vimal Akhouri of Boston, USA graced the function as Guest of Honour.
Lt Gen G Ramdas, Chief TMH, faculty members from Peerless Kolkata and internal instructor Dr
Binita Panigrahi also attended the programme.
