TMH Jamshedpur records 10 cases of black fungus, 5 fatalities

Steep fall in Covid cases, recovery 81.89 per cent


Jamshedpur, May 28: After days of high reportage, the city is witnessing a steep fall in Covid numbers. According to Tata Main Hospital, the second wave has reached its peak and cases are reducing with every passing day. 

During a telephonic media interaction, Dr Rajan Choudhry, advisor, and former general manager, medical services, Tata Steel said it is now clear that the impact of the second wave of Covid has gone weak and its impact is withering away. The recovery rate has improved to 81.89 per cent.

He went on to inform that the Covid-19 positivity rate has reduced from 30.48 last week to 17.13 this week.  The admissions have reduced to 93 this week. The deaths at the hospital have also reduced to 32 in the last week. Dr Choudhry informed that 130 health staff members have been hit by the virus comprising doctors and nurses.

He further noted that despite the fall people should continue to avoid crowding, wear masks and follow social distancing. This will reduce the chances of spread of the virus. If we remain serious about the protocols the virus will further reduce significantly.

Talking about preparations for the third Covid wave, Dr Choudhry said that the hospital is focusing on infrastructure development, appointment of health staff and will come up with appropriate actions from time to time. The hospital is acting proactively to strengthen facilities, so the situation could be handled in the best possible way.

The hospital recorded 10 cases of black fungus of which 4 patients have died and two have moved elsewhere.

He also said that three patients suffering from black fungus are still admitted at the hospital. The hospital has witnessed five deaths from it. Compared to the first wave of coronavirus pandemic, there have been more cases of Black Fungus in the second wave.

The hospital is operating 591 Covid beds out of these 441 beds at TMH. At present 210 beds are occupied.
