In keeping with their goal of making cancer care available to all Indians irrespective of location or affordability, Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) has extended affordable access to its online expert opinion service, Navya, (www.navya.care) for pediatric patients.
Dr. Shripad Banavali, Head of Department, Medical Oncology and Pediatric Oncology at Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, states: “80% of childhood cancers are curable if treated early per evidence based treatment plans.”
Navya provides critical treatment opinions to parents and caregivers of children with cancer. The expert opinion helps them validate and gain confidence in, or discuss an evidence based change in treatment plan with their treating oncologists.
Given the extreme scarcity in the number of expert oncologists who specialize in pediatric cancer, Navya scales access to pediatric cancer expertise. “For pediatric cancers, the first chance of cure is the most important,” said Dr. Tushar Vora, Professor of Pediatric Oncology at Tata Memorial Centre.
“Every cancer patient has the right to an expert opinion and we want every child to have the best chance at cure,” said Gitika Srivastava, Founder of Navya. “To increase access to pediatric expertise, TMC Navya will provide expert opinions at a subsidized processing fee of Rs.1500/- to children being treated under “General Category” at hospitals,” added Srivastava.
Patients can receive treatment locally and be guided by TMC pediatric oncologists in collaboration with their local treating oncologists.
