Jamshedpur: Several parts of Jharkhand are set to witness intense weather activity as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for thunderstorms, hailstorms, and gusty winds over the state.
According to the latest forecast, hail accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds reaching 40-50 kmph is expected at isolated places in the southern and adjoining central parts of the state today. Additionally, northern parts of the state may experience thunderstorms and lightning along with gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph.
The IMD has further predicted an intensification of the weather disturbance on March 21, with hail accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds expected at isolated places in southern and adjoining central parts of the state. The wind speed is expected to increase, reaching 50-60 kmph. Northern central parts of Jharkhand will also witness thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds of 40-50 kmph.
In light of the expected adverse weather conditions, the IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre has issued a nowcast weather alert for multiple districts, including East Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Latehar, Lohardaga, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Giridih, Dumka, and Jamtara.
The changing weather patterns have also influenced temperature conditions across Jharkhand. The maximum temperature in Ranchi and its surrounding areas has been hovering around 34-35 degrees Celsius. In Jamshedpur, the mercury touched 37 degrees Celsius, while Daltonganj recorded a high of 36 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Chaibasa, located in West Singhbhum district, recorded the highest temperature in the state at 38.8 degrees Celsius .
Residents in affected districts have been advised to take necessary precautions against the approaching thunderstorms and gusty winds. Authorities have also urged people to avoid staying in open fields, under trees, or near metallic objects during lightning activity. Farmers, in particular, have been cautioned to protect their crops as hailstorms could potentially damage standing agricultural produce.
