Thunderstorm, lightning and rain likely in Jharkhand today

Jamshedpur: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for all 24 districts of Jharkhand, warning of thunderstorms and lightning in isolated parts of the state on June 4. According to the alert, light rainfall accompanied by thunder is expected in several regions, bringing temporary relief from the summer heat.

The Meteorological Center in Ranchi has stated that while no significant change is expected in maximum temperatures over the next three days, a noticeable rise of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius is likely thereafter. This indicates a brief period of respite before the heat intensifies again later in the week.

In the state capital Ranchi, skies are likely to remain partly cloudy, with the possibility of rain and thunderstorms during the day. The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is projected to hover around 24 degrees Celsius.

In the last 24 hours, Jharkhand recorded a range of temperatures, with Daltonganj experiencing the highest maximum temperature at 38.4 degrees Celsius. On the other end, Jamtara recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 23.8 degrees Celsius. Rainfall was also recorded in a few places. Rajmahal in Sahibganj district received the highest rainfall, measuring 18.6 mm, followed by Maheshpur in Pakur district with 10.5 mm.

The IMD’s yellow alert indicates the possibility of weather conditions that could cause disruptions in daily activities, though not severe enough to warrant red or orange warnings. People have been advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms and take necessary precautions, especially in rural areas where lightning-related casualties are more common during the monsoon and pre-monsoon months.

The forecast reflects the ongoing transition phase between the dry summer and the onset of the monsoon, which typically begins in Jharkhand by mid to late June. Weather experts have advised farmers and residents to stay updated with daily bulletins, as pre-monsoon showers can be erratic and sometimes intense.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have urged citizens not to panic but remain alert. The rainfall, though scattered, is also expected to bring some temporary relief from rising temperatures and improve humidity levels across the state.
