Jamshedpur, March 26: City police Tuesday claimed to have busted an inter-state racket of vehicle-lifters by arresting its three members and confiscating eight stolen motorcycles.
Those arrested were identified as Sheikh Akram, Sheikh Amzad and Arbaz Khan, police said, adding that three mobile phones were also seized from the possession of the accused persons.
According to SSP Anoop Birtharay, Arbaz was arrested with a stolen bike near Voltas Building roundabout in Bistupur police station area today. He and his associates were planning to hand over the vehicle to Sheikh Akram of Haldipokhar. But before the racketeers could succeed in their plan, police officials caught them on the basis of a tip-off.
The SSP said the accused persons were notorious for stealing motorcycles and other vehicles in and around the city. Akram was earlier jailed in a vehicle lifting case lodged in Mayurbhanj, Odisha. The racket operates in several states, especially Jharkhand and Odisha, he said.
