Three nabbed for demanding extortion money

Jamshedpur, Jan. 20: The city police on Wednesday arrested three members of a gang that allegedly demanded extortion money worth Rs 10 lakh from a Jugsalai-based trader on January 13 and threatened to kill his 4-year-old son if they were not obliged, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) BN Singh.

Addressing a press conference at Jugsalai police station today, DSP Singh said, �Considering the seriousness of the matter SSP Anoop T Mathew constituted a special team comprising Ashok Kumar Giri, Jugsalai PS in-charge, Raju Technical Cell in-charge and other police officers, which raided several areas of the city and arrested Rohan Kumar (22), a resident of Bhatia Basti, Kadma, Gulam Nabi Khan (29), a resident of Gauri Shankar Road under Jugsalai Police Station, and Chandan Singhania (34), a resident of Samridhi Apartment under Bistupur police station, and recovered three mobile phones used for demanding extortion and cash protection money.

Narrating the incident, DSP further said, �Anurag Agarwal, a trader of electrical goods in Jugsalai, received a call on January 13 threatening to kill his son if he did not pay Rs 10 lakh as extortion money.

Agarwal filed a complaint at Jugsalai police station on the same day and after a week three accused have been arrested.�
