Jamshedpur, June 28: Three persons were injured when roof top (false ceiling) of Aashirwad, a popular restaurant on J Road in Bistupur, collapsed at around 12 noon on Tuesday. The restaurant was not filled and only eight persons were inside when the mishap took place.
As the news spread the Bistupur police rushed to the spot and took out the injured from inside the hotel. The three injured were rushed to Tata Main Hospital (TMH), of which condition of two of them is said to be serious.
The injured have been identified as Shubham Tiwary (22) and Reena Pandey (21) both resident of Adityapur, and Shivam Kumar (17), a resident of Gamharia, all in the neighbouring Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
“We are still in shock. We are students of students of Central Public School (in Adityapur) had planned to eat dosa and had been served the food by the staff when all of a sudden a loud sound erupted.
We were sitting at a corner of the eatery and the structure started crumbling with the noise and we could see people rushing out and we too joined them along with Shivam.
It was only after I came out that I saw Shivam stuck inside. The police came in few minutes and rescued Shivam,” said a resident of Adityapur who suffered bruises in his left hand.
Bistupur police station officer-in-charge, Anuj Kumar speaking to said that they are yet to file to file a case against the owner of the eatery.
“We are investigating the mishap and it appears to be an accidental case. We brought fire services department who inspected the restaurant and ruled out any electrical or fire hazard.
We have sealed the eatery and deputed guards to ensure that no one enters it. We will take steps against the management only after investigation,” said Anuj Kumar.
Meanwhile, DSP traffic Vivekananda Thakur rushed to the spot and diverted the traffic on the busy J-Road and is the approach road to Jamshedpur Women’s College for safe rescue operation.
Civil Engineer also reached the spot and started investigation as to how the roof collapsed.
Soon after the mishap Police reached the spot and started the relief work. Panic spread as the roof collapsed.
DSP (CCR) Janchitha Karketta and Hotel owner said that the matter will be revealed only after the investigation is over.
SDO Suraj Kumar and DSP Karketta said, those who will be found guilty in the investigation will be strictly dealt with. A case has also been registered at Bistupur police station.
Owner of restaurant Kripa Shanker who was present at the TMH has promised to bear the medical expenses of the injured.
