Three drug peddlers nabbed with brown sugar worth Rs 40 lakh at Adityapur

Seraikela-Kharsawan, Oct 6: In a significant breakthrough against illegal narcotics trafficking, the Seraikela-Kharsawan district police on Monday busted a drug racket in Adityapur and arrested three peddlers with brown sugar valued at nearly  Rs 40 lakh.

Acting on a tip-off, a special police team raided the Muslim Basti locality of Adityapur and seized 207.91 grams of brown sugar along with a mobile phone used in the trade.

Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Luniyat, while addressing a press conference, revealed that the arrested accused have been identified as Shahbaz Khan (19), a resident of H Road Muslim Basti, Adityapur; Mohammad Sameer alias Mohammad Ayan (19) from Durg, Chhattisgarh; and Rafiqul Islam (50) from Chandpur, Murshidabad, West Bengal.

The operation was carried out under the instructions of SP Luniyat and led by SDPO Samir Kumar Savaiya. Acting swiftly, a special team headed by Adityapur police station in-charge Vinod Tirkey managed to nab the accused red-handed during the raid.

The police acted upon confidential information that brown sugar was being illegally bought and sold in the area.

A special raiding squad was promptly constituted to verify the intelligence and take decisive action.

During the investigation, it came to light that Shahbaz Khan is a repeat offender, with three criminal cases—including NDPS Act violations and IPC sections—already registered against him at the Adityapur police station.

The arrested individuals are being sent to judicial custody as further legal proceedings continue.

The raiding team comprised SDPO Samir Kumar , Officer-in-Charge Vinod Tirkey, ASI Vinod Tudu, ASI Suresh Ram, ASI Ramrekha Paswan, ASI Kaushal Kumar, ASI Sushma Kujur, Assistant Sub-Inspector Shama Susari Lakra, and personnel from the armed police force.

SP Luniyat praised the coordinated efforts of the team and reiterated that the district police will continue to intensify its crackdown on the drug trade to curb narcotics-related activities in the region.
