Jamshedpur: In compliance with a directive issued by the Jharkhand High Court the district administration has initiated a decisive action against building plan violations in Jamshedpur, setting a strict three-day deadline for on-site measurements of identified structures.
Acting on the High Court’s order dated January 14, 2026, in W.P. (PIL) No. 2078/2018 (Rakesh Kumar Jha vs State of Jharkhand), a high-level review meeting was convened under the chairmanship of District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi.
The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey, Sub-Divisional Officer Dhalbhum Arnav Mishra, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee-cum-Additional Municipal Commissioner, Mango Municipal Corporation Krishna Kumar, In-charge Officer (Law Branch) Chandrajit Singh, and other concerned officials.
In line with the court’s directions, the administration has constituted four separate four-member teams to conduct physical measurements of 24 buildings suspected of deviations from approved building plans.
These teams have been instructed to complete the survey and submit detailed measurement reports to the Deputy Municipal Commissioner, JNAC, within three days.
The district administration has further resolved to issue notices to the concerned building owners, granting them one week’s time to voluntarily remove or vacate the deviated portions of their structures.
Failure to comply within the stipulated period will invite coercive action.
Officials clarified that after the expiry of the one-week deadline, demolition of unauthorized portions will be carried out strictly in accordance with relevant provisions of the Jharkhand Municipal Act, 2011 and the Building Bye-Laws Act, 2016.
The demolition drive, if required, will be conducted in the presence of a magistrate and adequate police force to ensure law and order.
The move signals a firm administrative resolve to enforce urban planning laws and uphold judicial orders, marking a significant step toward curbing unauthorized constructions in the city.
