Jamshedpur, March 25: A three-day Bharat Natyam Workshop got underway on Friday under the expert guidance of the renowned exponent of this dance form, VR Venkat and Pritha Venkat. It needs no mention that Tagore Society is the hub of art, culture and literary pursuits and many an exponent of the several writing and performing skills had their cradle at this hallowed edifice.
General Secretary of Tagore Society, Ashis Chowdhury and Principal of Tagore School of Arts, Chandana Chowdhury welcomed the Bharat Natyam experts VR Venkat and Pritha Venkat with bouquets. Ashis Chowdhury observed at the inaugural session, “Tagore Society is committed to the preservation and development of all branches and mediums of expressive arts in the literary and cultural spheres. Workshops, like the present Bharat Natyam endeavor are regular events through which we nurture and propagate art, literary and cultural pursuits. Setting new standards in these domains are what we aspire for.”
VR Venkat and Pritha Venkat have 27 aspiring performers under their charge in this three day Bharat Natyam workshop organized under the banner of Tagore School of Arts, a branch of Tagore Society. The two master exponents will be assisted by Malay Kumar Dey on Mridangam and Bharat Natyam instructor Rita Mitra of Tagore School of Arts.
During the first session, participants were introduced to the basics of the dance form before commencement of training. Gradually, the trainees were initiated into the finer nuances of Bharat Natyam.
Chandana Chowdhury said, “This Bharat Natyam workshop is as ambitious a project as our other undertakings in similar genres. Both, VR Venkat and Pritha Venkat are experts and the participating students have a fair chance of picking up the finer aspects of this dance format.”
