The Calcutta Samaritans-Jamshedpur to commemorate Day against Drug Abuse

Jamshedpur, June 24: Drug and alcohol abuse is an area of serious concern, especially in the context of changing social scenario.

The dug dependents are also at much higher risk of spreading HIV/ AIDS. The United Nations General Assembly in 1987 decided to observe 26 June as the “International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Drug Trafficking” as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and co-operation to achieve an international society free of drug abuse.

Every year a theme is selected to mark the occasion. This year the theme is “Let’s Develop Our Lives, Our Communities, Our Identities without Drugs”.

The main aim is to raise awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs represent to society. No individual, family or community is safe where illicit drugs take control.

Recognizing the importance of the community as key stakeholders and thus seek to establish partnerships with the public and civil society representatives to inspire people and mobilize support for a community, free of drugs.

In order to commemorate this occasion, The Calcutta Samaritans-Jamshedpur, in collaboration with Jharkhand State AIDS Control Society and Tata Steel, is going to organize a programme on these issues related to drug abuse prevention on 26th June’ 2015 at De-addiction Centre, (Targeted Intervention Office), Brahmani Road, Bagun Nagar, Baridih, Jamshedpur.  (10:00 am to 12:30 pm).
