Jamshedpur: Situation turned tense in Makdampur under Parsudih police station area on Friday after attack on a youth by a group of armed assailants late yesterday evening. Police visibility was increased in the area to control the situation. Cops arrested one youth in connection with an objectionable comment on a social networking site after the incident.
Sources said the locality was disturbed after assailants armed with swords, hockey sticks and canes beat up one Dilip Rai at Makdampur. The assailants, reportedly 50 to 60 in numbers, caught hold of Rai, who was on his way home after returning from a camp organized on the occasion of Ramnavami near Railway level crossing at Parsudih. They beat him up severely after intervening him on the main road.
Rai was taken to Tata Main Hospital. He told police he was beaten up by sword-flaunting youths on his way home to Sopodera, Parsudih.
Police officials detained several motorists near old Pig Farm at Parsudih today and subjected them to frisking for arms and other objectionable items.
In this connection, several local residents put up a demonstration at Parsudih Main Road to demand arresting of the accused persons. The residents burnt tyres on the road and disallowed commuters to ply on the road.
The protestors alleged that police had not taken action against the assailants. They said that police had failed to control the situation. “Police is just trying to paper over the matter. Cops are only harassing innocent people in the name of arms checking after the incident. They should instead go after the real culprits and put them behind the bars,” said one of the protestors.
Soon after coming to know about the incident, the Potka MLA Menka Sardar reached the scene and talked to protestors. She assured to take up the issue with higher authorities in the state government for ensuring prompt action against the culprits.
