Heat wave continues unabated across Jharkhand
Yellow alert issued for Kolhan; Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra on Orange alert

Jamshedpur, May 29: Jharkhand, including the Kolhan region, is currently grappling with a severe heatwave. On Wednesday, Jamshedpur recorded a sweltering maximum temperature of 43.8 degrees Celsius, with a minimum temperature of 30.3 degrees Celsius. The heatwave’s intensity peaked in Garhwa district, where temperatures soared to a staggering 48 degrees Celsius. Most districts, excluding Baharagora, Pakur, and Sahebganj, experienced temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.

In response to the relentless heatwave, several districts in Jharkhand have been placed on alert. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heatwave conditions in Garhwa, Palamu, and Chatra until May 31st. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for Koderma, Giridih, Hazaribagh, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, Ranchi, Khunti, Simdega, West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum, and Saraikela-Kharsawan.
However, relief may be on the horizon with the anticipated arrival of the monsoon. Dr. Abhishek Anand from the Ranchi Meteorological Department has indicated that the monsoon could make its way to the Indian border by Thursday. The meteorological conditions appear favorable for the onset of monsoon, with early signs of its arrival already evident in Kerala, well ahead of the usual June 1st schedule.
Woman dies of heat stroke
Jamshedpur, May 29: In Adityapur, the relentless heat wave claimed a victim as a 50-year-old woman succumbed to heatstroke. The woman, whose identity remains unknown, collapsed near a market adjacent to the Adityapur Electricity Office. Despite efforts by bystanders to revive her, she tragically passed away.

Reports suggest that before her demise, the woman had expressed her intention to travel to D Road in Adityapur. However, the intense heat ultimately proved fatal.
The scorching temperatures have also disrupted essential services, with electricity supply experiencing disruptions, adding further challenges to the already difficult situation.
