Patna: Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav alleged on Monday that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar resigned his Legislative Council seat under direct pressure from the BJP. While acknowledging the procedural nature of the move, Yadav argued that the reality behind the decision contradicts Nitish Kumar’s personal wishes.
Allegations of Political Betrayal
Tejashwi Yadav claimed that the BJP has “deceived” both the Chief Minister and the people of Bihar. He reminded voters of the RJD’s 2025 election warning: that the BJP would eventually sideline Nitish Kumar if the NDA returned to power.
“The BJP will not allow him to continue as Chief Minister,” Yadav asserted, suggesting that the ruling party is systematically consolidating power at Kumar’s expense.
Economic and Social Critique
Yadav launched a multi-front attack on the government’s performance, accusing the NDA of misleading voters with empty promises:
-
Financial Aid: He alleged that the government distributed only ₹10,000 of the promised ₹2 lakh for women’s livelihood support.
-
Electricity: He criticized the “125 free units” claim, noting that Bihar still endures some of the highest electricity tariffs in India.
-
Inflation: He predicted a sharp rise in LPG and fuel prices once elections in West Bengal, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu conclude.
-
Governance: Yadav questioned the lack of compensation for farmers hit by recent hailstorms and criticized the state’s daily “incidents of firing and murder.“
“Drama Politics” and National Ambitions
The RJD leader took a swipe at Rural Works Minister Ashok Choudhary, accusing him of “drama politics” after the Minister was seen weeping following Kumar’s resignation. Yadav argued that such displays distract from the lack of progress in education, health, and jobs.
Turning to national politics, Yadav confirmed that the RJD is contesting three seats in Kerala under the LDF alliance. He expressed confidence that the BJP would face heavy defeats in both the Kerala and West Bengal Assembly elections, while also announcing plans to strengthen the RJD organization in Jharkhand.
