Jamshedpur: A severe shortage of commercial LPG cylinders has left local hotel owners struggling to maintain operations. Following restrictions on cylinder distribution, many hoteliers have reverted to using wood and coal stoves. However, the high cost of coal and a lack of space for traditional hearths in small kitchens have made this transition difficult for many business owners.
Relief for Public Institutions In contrast, Jamshedpur’s hospitals and educational institutions report a slight improvement in gas supplies.
- Sadar Hospital: After days of cooking on coal stoves due to fuel shortages, the hospital kitchen has resumed using gas.
- Kasturba School, Patamda: Authorities provided six gas cylinders to the school, allowing staff to abandon wood-fired cooking. This shift has spared students from inhaling harmful smoke and relieved cooks from the burden of starting wood fires at 4:00 AM.
The Impact of Middle East Conflict The ongoing conflict in the Middle East continues to disrupt fuel supplies across Jamshedpur’s institutional sectors. While some facilities have secured new stock, many still face an uncertain wait. For instance, several Skill Development Centers that feed 250 to 300 students and staff daily still rely on coal and wood because they cannot access commercial cylinders.
Administrative Hurdles and Future Outlook Agency operator Pinku Kumar clarified that these institutions must now obtain formal permission from the SDO (Sub-Divisional Officer) or DSO (District Supply Officer). “We can only release cylinders after receiving instructions from the Indane nodal officer,” he explained.
Meanwhile, a representative from the private agency Go Gas expressed hope for the coming week, stating that they expect new shipments to arrive soon, which will allow them to resume commercial cylinder distribution.
