Tearful adieu to Maa Durga in Jamshedpur, over 400 idols immersed

Jamshedpur, Oct 25:  The echoes of ‘Bolo Durga Mai Ki, Jai’ reverberated through the air as the Steel City bid a tearful adieu to Goddess Durga, marking the end of the grandest festival on Tuesday.

The immersion of over 400 idols unfolded with seamless precision on Tuesday, bringing a harmonious conclusion to four days of revelry and merriment.

The immersion took place across 12 river ghats.

The Subarnarekha river ghats took center stage, witnessing the immersion of 123 idols, creating a breathtaking tableau of cultural richness and religious fervour.

Police officials confirmed the deployment of additional forces, with about 371 magistrates and over 400 police officials stationed across 11 blocks and 33 police stations in the district. The law and order machinery operated at full speed, ensuring the safety and peaceful conduct of the festival.

Devotees, carrying giant idols of Goddess Durga, walked in procession from puja venues to the riverbanks, offering prayers before the immersion. The chants of devotion echoed in the air, creating an emotional backdrop to the symbolic farewell.

The morning began with married women adorning the goddess and her children with red vermilion, offering sweets, and praying for the well-being of their families and the longevity of their husbands. The city witnessed a confluence of spirituality and celebration as people stood in long queues for their turn to seek darshan of the goddess at various pandals.

Notable pandals, such as Pravin Singh Seva Sansthan (earlier Jai Ram Sporting Club) in Adityapur and Thakur Pyara Singh and Dhurandhar Singh Club in Kashidih, drew large crowds. The police, in anticipation of the rush, deployed an adequate number of personnel across the city to ensure a smooth flow of devotees towards the riverbanks for idol immersion.
