Teachers of minority schools boycott teacher�s day celebration

Jamshedpur: Teachers of government aided minority school boycotted the Teacher�s Day celebrations and staged dharna here on Wednesday. About 74 schools in East Singhbhum and 81 schools in Ranchi were closed due to the mass leave taken by teachers for the demonstration.

In the East Singhbhum district, over 900 teachers from 74 minority schools in the district did not celebrate the Teacher’s Day.
Dhirendra Kumar, convenor of Jharkhand Rajya Alpasankhyak Prathamik evam Madhyamik Vidyalaya Shikshak Shikshaketar Samanvay Samity, East Singhbhum said that they had submitted demands to HRD minister Neera Yadav last year followed by a rally in Ranchi on July 19 this year to apprise the chief minister about problems.

The teachers demand seventh commission pay fixation, implementation of New Pension Scheme 2004, encashment of 300 leaves on retirement, grade pay of Rs 5400 on completing 24 years of service and gratification of newly recruited teachers.

“It is really a matter of great concern the Government is not concerned about our demands. The teachers in their memorandum to the deputy commissioners have demanded salary fixation according to the seventh pay commission, they have also demanded contributory pension scheme introduced in 2004 which is so far not applicable to teachers of minority schools,� said a teacher.

About 7,200 teachers of 1023 minority schools aided by state government boycotted the Teacher’s Day today to demand their rights. A majority of the teachers from across minority schools demonstrated in front of the Raj Bhawan with a list of demands under the banner of Jharkhand Rajya Alpasankhyak Prathamik evam Madhyamik Vidyalaya Shikshak Shikshaketar Samanvay Samity. .

The Jharkhand Alpsankhyak Prathamik evam Madhyamik Shikshak Samanvay Samity members said that they have given a ultimatum till September 18. In case the government doesn’t take any steps, they will meet the HRD minister Neera Yadav in Ranchi and plan a state wide agitation thereafter.
